Disabled Person Exemption
A Texas homeowner qualifies for a county appraisal district Disabled Person Exemption if the homeowner is:

  • under a disability for the purposes of payment of disability benefits under the Federal Old Age, Survivor's and Disability Insurance Act
  • or if the homeowner meets the definition of disabled in that Act

A Texas homeowner can not claim an over 65 exemption if they claim a disability exemption. A homeowner must furnish the county appraisal district a letter from the Social Security department or verification from their physician stating that they are disabled and that they are unable to return to work.
